Why Cane, Rattan and Wicker for Conservatory Furniture
For over 20 years, Haddon House have been delivering cane and rattan furniture throughout the UK, but why is this furniture so popular, especially in the conservatory or garden rooms? There are a number of significant benefits to cane furniture and it is these benefits that has made us so passionate about what we do!
Aestetics
Cane / rattan furniture is so unique in its look. It can be moulded into a massive array of styles and designs, meaning there is something for every individual taste, from classic designs such as our Rostherene range, to modern box style designs such as our new Milano suite, and everything in between! The material accepts paints and stains, so there is no limit to what look you can acheive.
Cane is a natural product, so each and every piece is made unqiue by the tiny individual markings and differences in the grain. Combined with the conservatory - often described as the gateway to the garden - cane furniture adds to the effect of bringing the feeling of space and clarity of the outside world, into your home. It is for this erason that you will normally see cane furniture stained in natural colours such as Light Sand, Mahogany, Light Honey and Pecan. These colours best compliment the overall aestetic of the room.
Strength and Durability
Despite its versitillity, cane furniture is also remarkably strong and if cared for, will last for years and years. Caring for your cane furniture is easy - we have a seperate article on cane furniture maintainance here. Cane furniture is also lightweight, so that it cane easily be moved around to suit your needs.
Environmentally Sound
We source the rattan for our conservatory furniture from sustainable forrests - Rattan in general is a great material from an environmental perspective (more about our environmental policy here). It is a climbing vine that wraps itself around existing trees in areas that can not otherwise support commercial crops with out extensive clearing of theses trees, acting as a deterrent to extensive deforrestation, and protecting healthy trees from those being felled around them.
Rattan harvesting is a labour intensive process, requiring only basic tools that are affordable for the farmers in the poorer parts of the world that are involved in this industry. As such, rattan harvesting provides away of life and a means of living for many that would otherwise struggle.
With so much going for cane furniture, it's hard to imagine a better alternative! But if you think that it can be done, why not let us know your idea's by contacting us here?
